The City of Dickinson reaffirmed its support of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL) at its meeting on Monday, June 5, by approving a resolution granting the TRPLF $350,000 in funding to be matched dollar for dollar by private donations to build the Elkhorn Ranch cabin replica.
The City will distribute $50,000 of the $350,000 immediately to match funds already raised by the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation (TRPLF) for the cabin. The remaining funds will be distributed in one lump sum when the Foundation has raised the $300,000 match.
The resolution also states that $2.7 million remaining from the city’s original commitment of $3 million made in 2013 to match state funding will be distributed to the TRPLF contingent upon construction of the TR Presidential Library, exclusive of the Elkhorn Ranch cabin replica, as follows: $700,000 in 2017, $1 million in 2018, and $1 million in 2019.
Construction of the cabin replica is slated to begin this summer, using cottonwood logs harvested from heritage ranches along the Little Missouri River, as well as those acquired last year from the banks of the Missouri River near Bismarck.
